For the last three months, I have been working at FreeArenas.com as a Content Management Intern. It was one of the greatest experiences for me.
What is FreeArenas.com?
FreeArenas.com allows you to find hiking trails, campsite, swimming spots, biking, backpacking and so much more! You can create your own profile, rate different locations and mark where you want to go and where you have been. You can discover your new favorite location or find your new adventure to embark on.
What Did I Do?
My job as an intern was to write about certain areas, update those locations, trails and updating their information. I was in charge of making locations nice for you, the customer, to look at.
I created different collections. I had a collection for Calming Hikes, Campsites near Civilization and Hikes for Everyone. These collections have different hikes that are great for people in different areas around the United States.
I was also given the opportunity to write a blog post. I have dealt with anxiety and I wrote about how hiking has helped me in my life. It is now featured on the FreeArena’s blog. You can check out my blog post here: https://www.freearenas.com/blog/tell-anxiety-to-take-a-hike/.
What Did I Learn?
My goal this semester was to get rid of the perfectionist in me. I allowed myself to learn about how to create great content, to do research and to receive constructive criticism. I allowed myself to separate the work I did from my personal feelings.
When I did that, I felt that I grew more than any other assignment I did for school. It wasn’t about the grade. It was about learning how to do a job, do it well and know that it may not be perfect and be okay with that.
This internship was great. It helped me learn more about myself, about what I wanted after I graduated, and helped me improve my writing skills. I am grateful for the experience I had.
